Two weeks since my last blog post?! That's a sin in blog-land! Life has been speeding by at such a fast pace, that I've barely had time to myself, and no time to read or post blogs recently. Chop has been on annual leave, so we've been spending lots of time together and doing a lot of research on things we need to prepare before baby arrives.
Last night we arrived home from a 3 day long-weekend in Tasmania. It was so nice to get out of Melbourne and escape the heatwave. Well, we had 2 days of cooler temps in Hobart, before the heat arrived yesterday. This little break was out "baby-moon". We considered it to be the last little romantic couple's holiday before baby comes along in June. It was such a nice relaxing little break. Here's a few photos from the trip (most are also found on my instagram: @whatalisees):
So what else has been going on? Our first baby-related purchase arrived at our door last week. We ordered our pram in January, and it finally arrived 2 months later! There was a supply shortage of the type I wanted, so we had to wait for more to be delivered to Australia. It only took about half an hour to put together, and it looks awesome!
We also received a stack of baby items from one of Chop's colleagues at work. He generously gave us a cot, a baby monitor, some linen for the cot and a few toys. I haven't had a chance to sort through all the boxes yet, so I'm not 100% sure what we've actually been given yet. We're just so appreciative to have been given some things, so we don't have to buy everything from scratch.
As for the baby room - it's currently filled with all these baby related things, with no sense of order yet. We've just ordered some curtains through etsy (see below), and hope that they'll arrive within the next few weeks).
My plan for the nursery is to try to decorate things without them being all "cutesie". I like the idea of a baby's room being tastefully decorated without the need to fill it with cartoon images of jungle animals, or planes, or cars etc. It'll be obvious that it's a baby's room because of the furniture within it, so there's no need to over-do it with baby-themed stuff. Hopefully we'll get time this week to pick up a chest of drawers from Ikea, and then I'll be setting off on a painting project to help make the furniture in the room match each other. Both Chop and I have 'the vision' of what we want this room to look like, and it's just a matter of making it happen over the next couple of months. The sooner the better really, because I'm still feeling energetic, and Chop is not handy at all and wouldn't know where to start with any home improvement task.
In other exciting news - we chose and bought a new (second-hand) car last Saturday, which we picked up today. Our first family-friendly vehicle! I never thought I would want and/or own an SUV, but when we started putting together our research, we realised that this type of vehicle will suit us well for the first few years of our son's life. It's easy to get the pram in and out of the back, and the car isn't too big to manouver. I'm so excited because this is my 2nd car purchase (I got my first car at age 28), and it's one that has actually been made in THIS century! It's a massive upgrade from my first car, which was about 23 years old and had a cassette player!
Baby boy has been super active lately, I can now feel him kicking up under my right rib, and this feels so weird! I'm also starting to notice that normal things are becoming more difficult to do... for example, if I'm wearing sandals that have a buckle on the ankle side of my foot, I need to get Chop to do them up for me. I can't seem to bend forward anymore to reach them! I'm sure things will continue to become more comical with my abilities as I move into that fatty-boom-ba third trimester. Stay tuned!
