Eddie enjoyed his first baby massage today! I got the idea from mother's group, as the nurse showed us a DVD on it as a nice way to bond with your baby.
So today I grabbed some towels and some sunflower oil and put Eddie on his change pad on top of the towels. He got all happy and sparkly eyes when I started taking off his outfit because he thought it was bath time (so cute! He just lurrrrves bath time). Then I oiled my hands and started rubbing his feet, then his legs, as he's used to us touching his ankles/feet during nappy changes. He was fascinated by it all, he just kept staring into my eyes and occasionally 'talking' or smiling while I sang to him. I massaged his belly and chest and then his arms before turning him over for a few minutes of tummy time so I could gently massage his little back. He got a bit freaked out during the tummy time, as he's still gaining strength for neck control and I think he gets tired trying to keep his head up - it just bobbles about and occasionally slams into the towels. So I rolled him back over and completely relaxed him again by gently massaging his legs and feet and a bit on his belly. He was all happy before his bath!
I'm going to try and do this each day before bath-time. It's actually a really enjoyable and relaxing activity for me too! I think he'll enjoy this more and more as he gets used to the experience. I wish I had this deluxe treatment each day for myself!
And in other news, we've just completed day 3 of what I hope is a 'routine' forming. The past 3 days we've had an almost identical pattern of feeding and sleeping. I got excited yesterday after 2 days of the same pattern and asked my Mumsie Twitter followers how many days does it take for something to be considered a routine with babies, and the response was 5 days. We've passed half way! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is a routine forming, because we're back to 3 hourly feeds and it enables me to get stuff done, or go places more confidently as I know when he'll next be hungry. It only took us 7 weeks to get to this point, ha ha ha.
On Thursday night Eddie slept 7 hours straight in his first nightly sleep, and last night he actually slept 8 hours straight in that first nightly sleep! I was stunned when I woke up at 3:45am and realised how long he'd been asleep. My boobs were killing me too! We're so lucky he sleeps so well at night, it gives me a chance to get a good 5 hours in before having to get up, and I feel fully charged for whatever comes next...
